The Health and Safety Executive, HSE defines stress as ‘the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressures or other types of demand placed on them’.
The keyword here is ‘excessive’. The courts have been known to find that employers should only give employees the roles that match their skillset, knowledge and training. Sounds simple, right?

However, when a position arises, an employer will often call upon other employees to fill that role, on a temporary basis, at first. And then the temporary basis lasts for months, leaving the employee, without the appropriate skillset, to do the job, left in a heap of stress, not wanting to go to work. And believe it or not, the writer has even witnessed many solicitors’ practices do this to their team. Property solicitors are in demand (well, decent ones!), and when the work piles up, stress starts, people leave, only to be replaced by an employee (in this instance a solicitor) from another totally unrelated department. For the record, you will no doubt be glad to know that MG Legal, your nearest solicitors, will only ever avail you of the best personal injury solicitors in Preston, when you need a solicitors in Lancaster, or the best property solicitors in Preston or Lancaster, if you are buying or selling a property.

With this in mind, none of the team of expert solicitors at MG Legal are part of the 1.4 million employees suffering from work-related health problems in 2018. Of this, 595,000 people were found to have suffered from work-related stress, anxiety or depression. In the same year, more than 500,000 people suffered other non-fatal injuries in the workplace, with your nearest personal injury solicitors MG Legal, handling some of the 14 cases that resulted in fatalities.

As one would imagine, agriculture workers and those in the construction industry (there are no shortage of ways to harm oneself on a building site or on a farm, as it turns out) are more at risk of fatality, and do indeed make up the majority of the unfortunate number of fatalities in 2018. MG Legal’s personal injury solicitors in Lancaster, Garstang and Preston, can report that, in 2018, slips, trips and falls in the workplace made up 31% of all workplace injuries, followed closely by handling, lifting and carrying coming in at 21%. You will no doubt be alarmed by the fact that violence in the workplace accounted for 7% of all reported injuries- the rest being made up of those employees who were unfortunate enough to be hit by an object (10%) Employees who fell from height, sustaining an injury at work, was recorded at 8%.
