Can I Arrange A Home Visit For My Relative?
Posted on 20th March 2020
As your local solicitors in Garstang, Lancaster and Longridge, we offer all local clients home visits as no extra charge! If you don’t live in the areas near our offices, that doesn’t mean we can’t help; our solicitors in Longridge, Garstang and Lancaster can offer home visits to most areas across Lancashire, for an additional charge of just £50.00 plus VAT.
We don’t just offer home visits for our elderly clients, as Solicitors who deal with elderly and vulnerable clients on a daily basis, our team can offer home visits to everyone who needs one: whether our clients suffer from anxiety, are not as ‘steady on their feet’ as they used to be, or they are self-isolating, our team could help.
Do you need an appointment for a home visit?
Yes, our team will not necessarily be able to come and see you there and then. We would generally need to arrange an appointment for later on in the same day, or later on the same week. Most of our home-visit clients like to arrange their appointments well in advance, to ensure that they have plenty of time to consider their instructions, especially when our clients are instructing our local solicitors for Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
However, don’t assume we can’t help, just because it’s short notice. If you give us a call, we’ll do our best to help and accommodate your needs.
How much do you charge for home visits?
If you’re local to the area of one of our offices – Garstang, Lancaster or Longridge – our team won’t charge you any extra.
However, if you’re located a bit further away, for example in Morecambe, South Preston (Longton, Penwortham, Hutton, Kirkham, etc) or on the Fylde Coast, our team charge a reasonable travel cost of £50.00 plus VAT (which includes travel time costs and the cost of the travel itself).
Can you still come and visit me if I am self-isolating?
Whilst we may need to discuss the logistics of our visit with you in more detail, in most cases our team are still happy to attend people’s houses who are self-isolating. We don’t want you to feel like you can’t access our services because of COVID19, or any other reason; we’ll always try our best to ensure that your legal matter can go ahead.
How will I provide you with ID for a home visit?
Our team of solicitors in Lancaster, Longridge and Garstang have two options: we can either check your ID, take it away with us, and return it to you by an agreed method (i.e. recorded delivery or home delivery by a member of our trusted team), or we can take copies of the documents there-and-then, returning the originals to you, and ensuring that the copies are processed in line with data protection policies.
Do I need to have other people present during my appointment?
Generally, we need to see our instructing clients on their own. For example, if you and your spouse are both instructing us to deal with a property sale or purchase, our team would speak to both of you together. If you are solely instructing us to draft your Will, we would need to see you by yourself. However, if you would feel more comfortable with a family member or friend being present, we would just need to ask them to wait in another room for certain parts of the appointment.
Will a home visit delay my legal matter?
No, not at all! Our solicitors in Longridge, Garstang and Lancaster will bring with them a Notice of Cancellation, and a request to start work within 14 days. You can consider both, and if you really want us to start work immediately, you can sign the request to start work. If you’d rather consider matters over the 14 days, that’s fine, too. You can just wait for the 14 day period to elapse, and we will then commence work on your behalf (once we’ve received your signed confirmation of instructions, of course).
