Your Legal Age - Should it be just a number, or based on Science?
Posted on 13th November 2018
Many people want to change their name. Whether it’s changing your first name because yours just isn’t keeping with the times (we all have doubts at times whether our name suits us - or is that just us?), or changing your last name, or even adding in a middle name, Solicitors in Lancaster, MG Legal, are on-hand to help you draft the required Deed of Change of Name. Whilst this is something that some people may want to draft themselves, it is always a good idea to consult Solicitors in Lancaster to ensure that this is done correctly, otherwise you could find yourself unable to use the document when you most need it!
Another major aspect of a person’s life which people can decide to change is their gender. However, one thing that a person cannot legally change, as of November 2018, is their age. This could be due to change in the future though. For one man the desire to be younger goes beyond just an occasional errant thought, and is something that he actually wants to legally change.
Recently a Dutch man, Emile Ratelband, commenced action against his Local Authority after they refused to change his age on official documents. Ratelband’s argument, Solicitors in Lancaster explain, is that his Doctors have told him that his body is that of someone over 20 years younger than his actual age of 69. He therefore wishes to change his legal date of birth from 11 March 1949 to 11 March 1969.
Whilst Solicitors in Lancaster, MG Legal, are specialists in Personal Injury (offered on a “No Win, No Fee” basis), Family Law (fixed fees from £395 for divorce proceedings, and free initial consultations), Wills & Probate (Wills from £50, and Lasting Powers of Attorney from £200) and Property Law (sales and purchases starting from £250), we cannot, nor can any solicitors, help you change your legal age!
So, whilst Mr Ratelband sees his legal battle through the Court system, MG Legal, Solicitors in Lancaster, are on-hand to help with your legal matters. And, who knows, maybe one day we will be able to draft your Change of Age Deed!
In the meantime, Solicitors in Lancaster, MG Legal, offer free initial consultations, by appointment, and fixed fees in Family Law, Wills & Probate and Property matters, as well as “No Win, No Fee” Personal Injury.
