What Is A Chartered Legal Executive And How Can They Assist Me With My Legal Matter?
Posted on 7th April 2020
Previously Chartered Legal Executives have received a lot of stick as many wrongly believe that they are unable to assist with legal matters, or (and yes this is a direct quote we have had) people who are too lazy to qualify as solicitors. This however isn’t the case, far from it, and rightly so Chartered Legal Executives are now receiving the recognition they deserve.
A Chartered Legal Executive is someone who has studied Law and taken an alternative route to qualifying as a Lawyer. Instead of gaining their qualification through studying Law at university, they have gained their skills and knowledge from CiLEX, with a more hands on approach, earning as they learn, under the aegis of a solicitors’ practice.
Generally speaking, Chartered Legal Executives are able to untaken the majority of work that Solicitors are, under the supervision of a principle. They are of course required to continue training through their carer in order to stay up to date with the current regulations and rules (similar to solicitors), this way they can offer the most accurate and relevant advice to their clients. Therefore, they are more than qualified to assist and advise you with your legal matters in all areas of Law.
Whereas there was once restriction on Chartered Legal Executive moving on to be partners in Law Firms, this is thankfully no longer the case, and we are seeing an increase in the number of people choosing to qualify as Chartered Legal Executive.
In summary, if you are represented by a Chartered Legal Executive, be in on family law, property, or personal injury matter, or event to draft your last Will and Testament, then you can rest assure that they are qualified to assist you, and you will be offered the same advise you would if you instructed a solicitor.
In fact, here at MG Legal, your local property, Will writing, and family law solicitors, our very own Sara Williams and Lorraine Gill are both Chartered Legal Executive and are expertly heading up the Family Department and Private Client departments respectively. With Sara regularly attending Court on behalf of her many Family Client and Lorraine overseeing the distribution of probate estates and assisting in ensuring her clients affairs are in order.
