What fees do solicitors charge?
Posted on 5th March 2019
Following recent observations made by the Solicitors Regulation Authority – the SRA, your conveyancing solicitors will soon be required to publish their fees on their website for all to see. This has been brought about by the SRA striving for transparency throughout matters, with full and frank information regarding fees being available from the outset.
The information is to set out details of hourly rates, typical timescales involved and details of any additional fees. For MG Legal, this will be no issue as our property solicitors always fully inform clients of the fees involved from the outset, with no hidden extras. We have heard of additional fees being charged for example for ID checks to be carried out. At MG Legal, we do not entertain such ‘add on charges’ and simply provide a fixed fee quote for our service to you, inclusive of all fees and disbursements.
The changes have been introduced with the aims of potential clients being able to make better informed decisions on the solicitor’s firm they instruct to act on their behalf. The changes are set to, eventually, bring about a comparison site style where individuals can obtain a quote, being fully informed of all fees involved, and compare the same in accordance with the firm’s reviews. This will then allow potential clients to make a decision on who to proceed with.
At MG Legal, our fees are competitive with no compromise to the service our specialist conveyancing solicitors offer. See our reviews for yourself here.
Costs will obviously differ dependent on the type of matter being instructed on, for example when buying/selling/transferring/re-mortgaging property, however, our conveyancing solicitors will be on hand to guide you through the process, not only in terms of fees, but in relation to the course of the matter as well.

The new rules on publishing fees apply not only to conveyancing, but also in relation to other services such as Probate cases, for example. At MG Legal, we have solicitors in Lancaster and solicitors in Preston who specialise in a range of matters including family law, Wills and probate and Personal Injury, which we would be delighted to assist with.
