The New Housing Development in Lancaster City Centre
Posted on 24th January 2020
Development is something that we see on a daily basis, from residential property sites, to large scale commercial buildings. At MG Legal, our solicitors in Lancaster have recently taken particular interest in a nearby site which is set with plans to develop the busy streets of Lancaster.
The once loved British Home Stores, situated on Lancaster’s Market Street, ceased trading and has been vacant as of August 2016. Some four years later, development plans have commenced to regenerate the vacant building. The abandoned site comprises a large part of Lancaster’s Market Street. It is, therefore, no surprise that London property firm Habro Properties Limited have high hopes and big plans for the site, with a strategy set to rejuvenate the area.
The plans are not just for one new store, but for the building to be totally redeveloped and subdivided into smaller units. Habro have made proposals that, they feel, will enhance the character and appearance of the area which were submitted in July, and approved in September. A member of Lancaster’s Civic Society has welcomed the proposals as a way of re-using such a prominent site within the area.

If you have plans to purchase a commercial building, we would always advise consulting our solicitors in Lancaster in the first instance, as there is more than those development plans to consider.
Amidst the excitement of a new project, it is important to remember the legalities of the process and to consider vital aspects of the transaction before deciding whether to proceed with the purchase. It is the job of our conveyancing solicitors to carry out their due diligence on the property on your behalf, however, there are a number of considerations that we would advise you carefully deliberate on, in any event. See our blog on commercial leases and what they may mean for you.
At present, no specific details, as to who will be the new kids on the Lancaster block, have been revealed. Our solicitors in Lancaster will, however, be following matters closely. Our team are eager to find out who their new neighbours will be, of course. Follow our blog for the latest developments.
