Terms of Business
Posted on 19th December 2018
Whilst it can be annoying to receive a five page initial letter and a nine page terms of business accompanying it, your Solicitors in Lancaster are duty bound to give you all the information contained within it. For examples, your Solicitors in Lancaster have to provide you with the following information:-
Storage and Retention of your File
Solicitors in Lancaster will archive your file once your matter is finalised, and after this time they have to store your file for a period of six years. After the six years, Solicitors in Lancaster can confidentially destroy your file. However, it is important to note that this does not include any original documents that Solicitors in Lancaster have expressly agreed to hold on your behalf. For example, your original Will, the original Deeds to your property or your original LPAs. It is worth confirming with your Solicitors in Lancaster if you are unsure.
Communication between your Solicitors in Lancaster and You
Whilst it may seem obvious in some cases, we have to provide you with contact information for the person who has conduct of your matter, usually our Mark Gregory, John Carlisle, Sara Williams or Michael Glover.
Time Estimates
Solicitors in Lancaster have to provide you with a time estimate for the completion of your matter, wherever possible. If your case is going to depend on different factors, your Solicitors in Lancaster will do their best to advise you of timescales as your matter progresses. If you have any questions about your case and how long things will take, give us a call on 01524 581 306.
Costs Information
Again, wherever possible, Solicitors in Lancaster will let you know how much things are likely to cost. Unlike some firms, MG Legal believe in transparency, so we offer fixed fees wherever we can – starting from £250 plus VAT for property matters, £50 plus VAT for Wills, £200 plus VAT per Lasting Power of Attorney document (Our Christmas Offer – don’t miss out) and Divorces starting from £395 plus VAT. If we can’t confirm our fees immediately, we will do our best to confirm these as soon as possible, but we will let you know how our files are costed and what the person dealing with your matters hourly rate is. These start from £160 plus VAT per hour.
We will also confirm our bank details and other payment methods – just let us know if you need any more information!
ID
Now, whilst this does not necessarily seem important, in order to comply with Money Laundering Regulations, every Solicitors is required to abide by anti-money laundering legislation and the proceeds of crime. So, don’t be alarmed when we ask you for photographic ID and a proof of address. Usually photographic can be in the form of a driving licence or your passport, and your proof of address can be a bank statement or a utility bill. If you don’t have any of the above, don’t panic. Solicitors in Lancaster can accept other forms of ID and can advise you on these by calling 01524 581 306.
So, don’t be daunted when Solicitors in Lancaster send out our initial client care – if we didn’t have to make it so long, we wouldn’t! Instead, sit down with a cup of tea and give it a read. If you ever have any questions, give us a call and we will be able to help. Or, email us on enquiries@mglegal.co.uk.
