In the 2022/23 period, workplace injuries and related health issues in Great Britain were significant. According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), there were 1.8 million working people suffering from a work-related illness. This included 875,000 workers suffering from work-related stress, depression, or anxiety, and 473,000 workers suffering from a work-related musculoskeletal disorder.

In terms of fatalities, 135 workers died in work-related incidents. The industries with the highest number of deaths were construction, agriculture, forestry, fishing, manufacturing, and transportation and storage. The most common causes of these fatal injuries were falls from height, being struck by a moving object, and being struck by a moving vehicle.

Additionally, there were 561,000 working people who sustained a non-fatal injury, based on self-reports from the Labour Force Survey, and 60,645 injuries to employees were reported under RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations).

The total number of working days lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury was 35.2 million. The estimated cost of injuries and ill health from current working conditions was £20.7 billion for the 2021/22 period.

Understanding Your Rights

In the UK, employers have a legal duty to ensure a safe working environment. If you suffer an injury at work due to your employer's negligence, you are entitled to claim compensation. This includes injuries resulting from inadequate training, faulty equipment, or unsafe working conditions. Workplace injuries can be both physically and emotionally distressing. If you’ve been injured at work, you might be wondering if you can claim compensation. The answer is often yes, and MG Legal, no-win no-fee solicitors in Preston, Lancashire, are here to guide you through the process.

What Constitutes a Workplace Injury?

A workplace injury can vary from slips, trips, and falls to more severe cases like machinery accidents or exposure to harmful substances. Even repetitive strain injuries or psychological stress can be grounds for a claim if they are work-related.
